If you've followed my work for a while, you may have noticed something.
No matter what I'm creating — a shawl, a scarf, a piece of wall art or even a small jewellery — there is usually a beach somewhere in the background.
And that's because I don't really need a photography studio.
I live just minutes from the ocean.
The beaches, the cliffs, the changing skies and endless blue water have become the natural backdrop to my work. In many ways, they are part of the story behind every piece I create.
Sometimes I joke that New Zealand's coastline is my outdoor studio.
And honestly... It's true.

A quiet beach in the early morning.
Golden evening light reflecting on the water.
A gentle sea breeze catches the silk.
These moments help me capture not only the piece itself, but also the feeling behind it.
Because the ocean isn't just a background.
It's one of my greatest sources of inspiration. 🌊
The colours of the sea find their way into my work all the time.
Soft turquoise water.
Deep ocean blues.
Silver-grey clouds before a storm.
Warm sandy beaches glowing in the afternoon sun.
Even the textures remind me of wool fibres — waves layering over each other, sea foam drifting across the shore, patterns left behind by the tide.
Nature is the most incredible artist.
I'm simply translating a little of that beauty into wool and silk.
🌊 How the Coastline Appears in My Work
You'll find hints of the ocean in:
• flowing merino and silk shawls inspired by waves and sea breezes
• coastal landscapes created with wool fibres on cushions
• textured wall art reflecting water, light and movement
• colour palettes inspired by beaches, shells and New Zealand skies
One of the things I love most about living in New Zealand is that inspiration is never far away.
Sometimes all it takes is a short walk along the beach.
I return home with windblown hair, sandy shoes, and a head full of new ideas.
And more often than not...
another photograph of a shawl by the ocean. 😊 🌊

Every piece I make tells a story.
This one began on a beach not far from home, where the ocean has become both my backdrop and my inspiration.
